About the role

NHS Digital is the national information and technology provider for the health and care system.  Our growing team of 2,700+ information analysis, technology and project management experts create, deliver and manage the crucial digital systems, services, products and standards upon which health and care professionals depend, working in partnership with both national and local organisations.

Our Senior Product Manager are responsible for leading product direction across multiple products or services, ensuring they meet user needs as well as delivering wider strategic outcomes, priorities and benefits.

  • Own the collaborative, iterative design and improvement of products or services for their delivery team
  • Support delivery teams by helping them to define, prioritise and solve real problems for users and other stakeholders

 We’re growing and are looking for Senior Product Managers to join a number of our directorates:

Product Development designs and delivers new applications to help citizens, patients and clinicians including the NHS website, NHS App, NHS login and Digital Urgent and Emergency Care.

  • Senior PMs for NHS App – Supporting 16 million users accessing healthcare services on their smartphone or tablet. Help us continue to inform people about their health and care, manage their health and access new digital healthcare tools.  
  • Senior PMs for Primary Care Technology – Delivering better and modern GP systems, using shared, open standards, to help unlock the potential of digital technology across the NHS. 

Data Services is the data custodian for the health and care system, has primary responsibility for driving data quality, linking data across the system and providing reliable statistics and insights.

  • Senior PM for Data Access – Responsible for the design, development and delivery of a new solution for applying for Secure Access to Data service within our Value of Data programme.
  • Senior PMs for Data Services Alliance - Owning and delivering the vision and roadmap for one or more key technical products within the Alliance, working within a team of product managers and specialists from across the Alliance.

Platforms provides the core platforms that underpin the products and data services which we deliver within NHSD and are also made accessible to regional and local service developers including demographic registers, identity services (citizen identity and NHS workforce identity) and messaging platforms for prescriptions and referrals.

  • Senior PM for API Management – Lead one or more multi-disciplinary agile delivery teams to deliver high profile NHS facing interoperability products and iterations to existing products to meet user needs.

As a Senior Product Manager you will:

  • Work with your team, delivery partners and stakeholders to understand and clarify user needs in context - championing the commitment to create real value for users
  • Help delivery partners, stakeholders and management to ensure the best strategic decisions are made to achieve successful outcomes
  • Support the investigation of operational issues and redesigning processes where necessary
  • Own the vision for your product or service – developing, communicating and iterating a view of what successful outcomes look like and how they should be measured
  • Use a combination of qualitive / quantitative data and professional expertise to make the best decisions about the direction and relative priority of work
  • Work to continuously iterate near and longer-term plans for your team, ensuring these are open, flexible and adaptive to change
  • Foster collaborative thinking and problem solving, using appropriate techniques and tools to identify and prioritise further issues and opportunities to explore
  • Build partnerships by communicating the team’s efforts, achievements and needs to delivery partners, stakeholders, management and the public

About you

Some of the skills and experience we're looking for our Senior Project Managers to have:

  • Expert level knowledge of agile product management methodologies and experience of using within a digital product or service environment
  • Experience leading teams, defining and aligning product and delivery plans, product visions, roadmaps, business cases etc.
  • Utilising user research, feedback and other data to understand your users.  Defining and communicating outcomes
  • Coaching and mentoring, championing and implementing a culture of continuous improvement
  • Working with diverse multidisciplinary service/product teams, nurturing collaboration across teams
  • Understanding how different stages of the product lifecycle influence and effect a delivery teams focus and decision making
  • Determining, communicating and implementing clear objectives, KPIs and results
