About the role

NHS Digital is the national information and technology provider for the health and care system.  Our growing team of 2,700+ information analysis, technology and project management experts create, deliver and manage the crucial digital systems, services, products and standards upon which health and care professionals depend, working in partnership with both national and local organisations.

Our Associate Delivery Managers are responsible for the delivery of projects, features or epics of digital products and services. You will typically work within a multi-disciplinary user-centred or software delivery team used to agile working, or they will support a more experienced Delivery Manager or Senior Delivery Manager in a more complex context.

  • Delivery Managers use their knowledge and experience in agile and lean practices to create the right environment for effective delivery.
  • Using a range of agile practices to support a multidisciplinary user-centred or software delivery team through the product delivery lifecycle.
  •  Contributing to the on-going development of NHS Digital’s Digital Services Delivery Profession.

We’re growing and are looking for Associate Delivery Managers to join a number of our directorates and have a range of roles which include:

Product Development designs and delivers new applications to help citizens, patients and clinicians including the NHS website, NHS App, NHS login and Digital Urgent and Emergency Care.

    • Associate DM for Primary Care TechnologyDelivering better and modern GP systems, using shared, open standards, to help unlock the potential of digital technology across the NHS.
    Data Services is the data custodian for the health and care system, has primary responsibility for driving data quality, linking data across the system and providing reliable statistics and insights.
    • Associate DMs for Data Services AllianceSupporting delivery squads within the Alliance using agile delivery approaches - ensuring products are delivered on time, blockers are removed and teams remain focussed and motivated.
    Platforms provides the core platforms that underpin the products and data services which we deliver within NHSD and are also made accessible to regional and local service developers including demographic registers, identity services (citizen identity and NHS workforce identity) and messaging platforms for prescriptions and referrals.
    • Associate DM for Spine - Supporting a delivery squad working on the NHS Spine using agile delivery approaches - ensuring products are delivered on time, blockers are removed and teams remain focussed and motivated.
    • Associate DM for Care Identity Service (CIS) - Supporting a delivery squad within our identity and access management pillar using agile delivery approaches - ensuring products are delivered on time, blockers are removed and teams remain focussed and motivated.
    As an Associate Delivery Manager you role will include:
    • You will be using your knowledge and experience in agile and lean practices to create the right environment for effective delivery
    • Motivating your team to continually learn, improve and innovate, whilst providing coaching, guidance and practical advice
    • Responsible for ensuring that the delivery team is adopting and applying agile and lean practices, developing strong team dynamics through ongoing collaboration and maintaining delivery momentum
    • Working closely with Product Managers, supporting the planning and direction of your area of work
    • Helping to ensure that the objectives or outcomes of the work are clearly defined, well-articulated, and understood by the team, and relate to the vision and objectives of the overarching product or service.

    About you

    Some of the skills and experience we're looking for: 

    • A good understanding of and experience in Agile and lean methodologies and practices (such as Scrum and Kanban) within a digital delivery environment
    • Utilising User-centred design practices and iterative agile software development techniques
    • Facilitating delivery using clear, open and transparent frameworks
    • Planning and facilitating collaboration workshops
    • Experience of scheduling and facilitating agile techniques for short and long-term planning
    • Actively tracking, managing, removing, minimising or escalating risks, issues and dependencies and understand how they impact the work of the team
