About the role

Are you passionate about the power of technology and data to improve health experiences and insights? Do you champion clear communication to safely meet user needs across all audiences?

NHS Digital is the national information and technology provider for the health and care system.  Our growing team of 2,700 information analysis, technology and project management experts create, deliver and manage the crucial digital systems, services, products and standards upon which health and care professionals depend, working in partnership with both national and local organisations. Our vision is to harness the power of information and technology to provide better health and care.

We’re growing and are looking for a Lead Content Manager to join the programme that delivers our NHS website and associated services, responsible for all live service (content management, resource management, policy compliance and assurance) aspects of the NHS website’s editorial content estate.

Increasingly, the NHS website acts as a ‘platform’ that can be used by other national NHS agencies to publish content and transactional service elements to a public audience. You will have a key role in opening-up the facilities offered to such third parties, as well as establishing and maintaining the content standards and compliance mechanisms associated with the platform’s operation. Accordingly, you will have particular skills in working and influencing across organisational boundaries in order to achieve shared objectives. The work you do to make sure our publications meet user needs on an inclusive basis will have an impact on a national scale, helping our NHS achieve improved health outcomes for patients and supporting health and care staff.

As a Lead Content Manager you will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring content standards are maintained with all content across professional and public facing services in your portfolio being inclusive and accessible
  • Collaborating across different programmes, making recommendations around processes and resourcing prioritisation to suit changing agendas while protecting clinical safety and data integrity
  • Providing senior oversight and leadership for strategic content activities and expert advice on approaches, processes, tools, quality and standards across the programme and directorate
  • Inspiring and guiding content designers and content managers (contract and permanent) working across a portfolio of programmes, and the wider system, facilitating close collaboration through standards-based working
  • Advocating for user-centred design as a senior manager.

About you

Some of the key skills and experience you'll bring:

  • Advanced knowledge of content management and content design, with an understanding of how it dovetails with related content disciplines (social media and multimedia)
  • Experience of working in a senior content role, responsible for one or more of the specialist content areas (social and digital media, multimedia, content design or content management), supporting several product teams concurrently
  • Proven industry experience of applying content knowledge (content design, content management, multimedia or social and digital media) to real-world applications and organisational challenges
  • Experience of working effectively with multi-disciplinary teams and ensuring that the process for making content decisions is based on content knowledge, user research and knowing the user journey
  • A broad understanding of GDPR, privacy and legal implications associated with the creation and publication of content; ability to provide oversight and steer to junior colleagues and ensure that their content adheres to various GDPR, privacy and safeguarding guidelines
  • Advanced understanding of content performance metrics evaluation, across the content disciplines
