About the role

Following an extensive induction providing the opportunity to experience diverse areas of technical assurance, you will work as part of an experienced and supportive team, contributing to a wide range of assurance activities providing test and assurance consultancy support working as an SME (Subject Matter Expert) with a range of delivery partners and suppliers.

This role will be part of Solution Assurance. We provide expertise to enable national programmes and health and social care organisations to develop effective systems, information, and technology. Our work contributes to safer treatment and better care within health and social care services in England.

In your role as a Technical Assurance Specialist, activities you’ll undertake include:

  • Working collaboratively with the development, delivery, and programme teams to achieve a successful delivery of quality software – this includes providing test and assurance guidance to the teams using your specialist knowledge of functional and integration testing (including software and application interoperability in a large scale, multiple component delivery context).
  • Using your knowledge and understanding of the concepts of technical risk management to mitigate functional and integration impacts. Providing timely feedback to either the technical or the data development team when tests either fail to prove that the acceptance criteria have been met and/or fail to mitigate the risks identified.
  • Supporting activities to engineer quality into the delivery lifecycle, from supplier engagement through to live service incident reviews and ‘fix forward’. Collaboratively determining Acceptance Criteria for developers to code against.
  • Helping ensure that the automated test suite (continuous integration, or CI) is successful each time it is executed using your knowledge of key concepts of agile development – (the agile lifecycle, the mechanics of scrums and sprints).
  • Using your knowledge of quality maturity models such as TMMI and quality standards such as the ISO9000 series to improve test capabilities.
  • Using structured test data and enable test environment provision to improve and aid functional and integration testing.

About you

This role may appeal to anyone with experience in the test and assurance domain, including those working in technical roles in health informatics who would like a new challenge in test and assurance.  

Some of the key skills and experience you'll bring:  

  • Knowledge of heath care informatics systems and related technologies.
  • An understanding of manual and automated testing and their advantages to the functional and integration testing of current or future technologies (such as machine learning and AI).
  • Proven ability to apply structured test and assurance techniques and processes for complex IT systems and solutions.
  • Ability to clearly articulate a technical architecture and to recognise the risks associated with that solution.
  • Experience of automated and exploratory test case design techniques and tools in an agile development environment.
  • Qualified to Post-Graduate Diploma/Degree level, or equivalent higher education qualification or equivalent experience.
  • ISEB/ISTQB Software Testing Foundation Certificate (Certified or Agile Tester) or equivalent recognised qualification or level of experience.
