Bowel Cancer is the second most common cause of death in the UK. Finding it at its earliest stage allows for treatment and gives a patient a 92% chance of survival for five years or more. We strive to make that better. Our work in NHS Digital supports the national screening programme through ensuring that the technology used operationally each day enables the best possible outcomes for patients.

We are therefore looking for an experienced Test Specialist to support the quality assurance and testing work of the cross functional team with the aim of delivering value in the quickest and safest way possible. 

As a Test Specialist you will:

  • Support the testing and assurance work of the cross functional team.
  • Carrying out a range of testing including functional, non-functional, integration and data process
  • Use tools used for test automation, including bespoke, open source and commercial tools for functional and integration, non-functional and/or data process testing, including those that require coding skills to build a test framework
  • Actively participate in an agile environment and participate activities including scrums, sprint ceremonies etc.
  • Support your colleagues’, helping them develop their skills and knowledge in test automation
  • Share new ideas and technologies to improve strategies and performance

About you

We want you to be set for success, these are some of the key skills and experience that you'll bring to the role:

  • Experience and knowledge of test and assurance practices, tools and techniques within an agile multi-disciplinary environment

  • Proven knowledge and experience of working with Agile methodologies

  • Strong knowledge of tools used for test automation, including bespoke, open source and commercial tools

  • Knowledge of various operating systems such as UNIX / Ubuntu LINUX / Windows

  • Proven ability to use structured test data and test environment provision to improve and enable functional and integration, non-functional and/or data process testing

  • Able to diagnose, report, track and resolve test, assurance and quality issues using tools such as JIRA and/or Cherwell

  • Ability to communicate relevant test and assurance practices and procedures to a non-technical audience

  • A qualification such as ISEB/ISTQB Software Testing Foundation Certificate could be beneficial
