NHS Digital is the national information and technology provider for the health and care system.  Our growing team of 2,700+ information analysis, technology and project management experts create, deliver and manage the crucial digital systems, services, products and standards upon which health and care professionals depend, working in partnership with both national and local organisations.

Our Product Managers:

  • Take ownership of collaborative, iterative design and improvement of a product or service for their delivery team
  • Support delivery teams by helping them to define, prioritise and solve real problems for users and other stakeholders – ensuring the service better meets their needs

We’re growing and are looking for Lead Product Managers to join a number of our directorates and have a range of opportunities which include:

Data Security Centre: The Data Security Centre builds public trust and supports safe patient care by enabling the secure and safe use of information and assuring critical systems within the health and care sector

  • Product Manager for the Data Security Centre – As part of the Data Security Centre you will incubate, develop and deliver innovative digital security products, systems and services that help health and care organisations manage cyber risk and recover in the event of an incident. We have a range of opportunities which include Data Security Protection Toolkit and Respond to an NHS Cyber Alert.

Product Development designs and delivers new applications to help citizens, patients and clinicians including the NHS website, NHS App, NHS login and Digital Urgent and Emergency Care

  • Product Manager for the NHS App – Supporting 16 million users accessing healthcare services on their smartphone or tablet. Help us continue to inform people about their health and care, manage their health and access new digital healthcare tools.
  • Product Manager for the NHS Website – Delivering services and information on the UK’s biggest health website, with more than 80 million visits per month. The NHS website is a national platform for hosting information, tools and services about health, illnesses, medical services, treatment and wellbeing.
  • Product Manager for NHS Pathways – Leading the evolution of products that support non-clinical call handlers and clinicians in directing patients and carers to the most appropriate level of care.
  • Product Managers for Screening – Delivering improved screening services across the NHS including bowel cancer and breast screening services.

Data Services is the data custodian for the health and care system, has primary responsibility for driving data quality, linking data across the system and providing reliable statistics and insights.

  • Product Managers for Data Services Alliance - Owning and delivering the vision and roadmap for one or more key technical products within the Alliance, working within a team of product managers and specialists from across the Alliance.
Platforms provides the core platforms that underpin the products and data services which we deliver within NHSD and are also made accessible to regional and local service developers including demographic registers, identity services (citizen identity and NHS workforce identity) and messaging platforms for prescriptions and referrals.
  • Product Manager for NHS Spine – Be responsible for deciding team priorities, managing the backlog and facilitating delivery, supporting our vision of a user-centred modern approach to our platform products

  • Product Manager for CIS2 – Be responsible for deciding team priorities, managing the backlog and facilitating delivery, supporting our vision of a user-centred modern identity and access management platform.

Assurance and Risk Managementprovides assurance to our Board and key stakeholders that NHS Digital can successfully deliver on its objectives to be considered a trusted and valued business partner across health and social care. 

  • Product Manager Assurance and Risk Management – Leading the engagement, planning and delivery of a portfolio of BI reports and dashboards across NHS Digital as well as leading the development of a centralised BI Hub.

Our Product managers work in multi-disciplinary agile, user-centred product development and service design teams, representing users and their product or service to wider stakeholders and management.

As a Product Manager you will:

  • Work with your team, delivery partners and stakeholders to understand and clarify user needs - championing the commitment to create real value for users
  • Take ownership of the vision for their product or service, communicating what successful outcomes look like and how they should be measured
  • Use combinations of qualitive and quantitative data and professional expertise to make decisions about the direction and relative priority of work to improve a product or service (often with incomplete information or degrees of uncertainty)
  • Work to continuously prioritise work and iterate near and longer-term plans for your team, ensuring these are suitably open, flexible and adaptive to change
  • Foster collaborative thinking and problem solving within and beyond your team, using appropriate techniques and tools to identify and prioritise further issues and opportunities to explore
  • Build partnerships by communicating the team’s efforts, achievements and needs to delivery partners, stakeholders, management and the public

About you

Some of the skills and experience we're looking for from our Product Managers: 


  • Experience as a Product Manager working within teams employing agile ways of working (Scrum, Lean, Kanban etc.) and user centred design methods
  • Experience working with techniques for idea generation, backlog prioritisation and analysing feedback
  • Experience using user research and other data to understand users and their needs
  • Experience clearly defining outcomes for (or problems with) products or services
  • Experience collaborating with teams and stakeholders to define user stories, success criteria, KPIs and performance metrics
  • Experience communicating decisions and priorities in a clear and engaging manner (e.g. show and tells, briefings etc.)
  • Experience fostering collaboration across diverse, multidisciplinary service or product delivery teams
