About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to join NHS Digital in a senior administrative role. The key tasks for the successful postholder will be to support in the management of the day-to-day running of the business support function and to provide executive support to senior members of the Core Infrastructure directorate.  They will support resourcing and recruitment activities, process payments and invoices, ensuring compliance with key policies and financial regulations and provide general administrative support to the various programmes of work across the directorate. The role is a mixture of traditional office support and PA activities.


This role sits within the Core Infrastructure directorate, who run a wide range of projects aimed at enhancing the IT infrastructure capability of the health and social care system, enabling the NHS to better harness technology to bring about better outcomes in patient care.  As a member of the Core Infrastructure Management Office team, you will play a pivotal role in supporting this work, through the provision of a wide range of general business and project support functions, to a directorate of almost 100 people who work across the Core Infrastructure Services sub directorate.


As a Business Support Manager you will be responsible for:

  • providing executive support to senior personnel and work as a senior member of a team of administrators providing the following services:
          - Resourcing and recruitment
          - Processing of payments
          - Other administrative and programme support tasks
  • handling multiple sources of information and producing a range of products and services to ensure robust and effective service delivery to internal customers across a business and operational delivery area of NHS Digital.
  • ensuring relevant quality and other service standards are met in a demanding and complex environment.
  • operating with a significant degree of autonomy and will be able to prioritise their own and their team’s work in order to meet organisational business objectives and key performance indicators.

About you

Some of the key skills and experience you'll bring:  

  • You will have previous experience in a business administration and personal assistant role
  •  You will have experience of managing a team and possess excellent people skills, with the ability to prioritise and organise a large and busy workload
  • You will have experience of working within your own team, as well as across teams, to set priorities, create clear plans and effectively manage different strands of work to meet the needs of the customer and the business
  • You will have experience of implementing processes and procedures to bring about the efficient running of a business support function
  • You will have excellent standards of communication and experience of dealing with people at all levels of an organisation
  • You will have a proven ability of working with internal and external stakeholders to understand their requirements and needs, providing effective consultancy, direction and advice to ensure the delivery of timely and accurate information
