Driven by the recommendations of the Wade-Gery review, NHS England Transformation Directorate has the mandate to deliver a broad, complex set of products, platforms and services which play a vital role in the delivery of health and care across the country every day.

Our products and services are central to supporting NHS patients, staff, researchers and the public, as well as to achieving critical national health and care goals – as demonstrated throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

We are growing our Product Management capability to ensure our products and services deliver real value for their users and continuously improve to better meet their needs.

With this in mind, we have range of exciting opportunities for Senior Product Managers to support multidisciplinary teams across our Product & Platforms sub-directorate.

Our Senior Product Managers:

  • Take ownership of collaborative, iterative design and improvement of a product or service for their delivery team
  • Support delivery teams by helping them to define, prioritise and solve real problems for users and other stakeholders – ensuring the service better meets their needs
  • Put people at the heart of everything they do. They are inclusive, ensuring NHS services work for everyone, improve lives directly or indirectly and are designed for trust

Our Senior Product Managers work in multi-disciplinary agile, user-centred product development and service design teams, representing users and their product or service to wider stakeholders and management.

Our product portfolios include:

Digital Citizen Health – delivering citizen-facing national digital channels and services including NHS.uk, NHS App, and NHS login.

Digital Primary Care – delivering new capabilities to support the digital transformation of primary care and wider community pharmacy, optometry and dentistry.

Digital Urgent and Emergency Care – ensuring best use of digital technology in urgent and emergency care to get patients the right help, in the right place, at the right time.

Screening and Vaccinations – delivering the next generation of digital services to support the national screening and national vaccination and immunisation programmes.

Enabling Products – delivering digital interoperability across the providers of the wider health and care system, including core national products to enable secondary care appointment management (Wayfinder), bookings, referrals, prescriptions, child protection, child health and medicines management.

Demographics – provides and manages the register of NHS numbers and associated demographic patient data used by all authorised health and care professionals when providing direct care.

Clinical Data Sharing – provides the ability for authorised health and care professionals to securely access, share and be alerted to a range of clinical information, for the purposes of direct care.

Core Services – provides the tools and services to enable product teams to build and integrate technology in the health and care system. This includes tooling to understand and develop new software, using national APIs and integration services to interoperate with other systems across health and care.

Cohorting – provides the platform to identify patients safely, repeatably and transparently, to support NHS population health objectives.

Staff and Citizen – enabling verified, authorised users to securely access either their own or their patients’ clinical information - including Cyber Products, Digital Staff Passport and Digital Staff App.

 

As a Senior Product Manager you will:

  • Work with your team, delivery partners and stakeholders to understand and clarify user needs in context - championing the commitment to create real value for users
  • Help delivery partners, stakeholders and management to ensure the best strategic decisions are made to achieve successful outcomes
  • Support investigation of operational issues and redesigning processes where necessary
  • Own the vision for your product or service – developing, communicating and iterating a view of what successful outcomes look like and how they should be measured
  • Use a combination of qualitive / quantitative data and professional expertise to make the best decisions about the direction and relative priority of work
  • Work to continuously iterate near and longer-term plans for your team, ensuring these are open, flexible and adaptive to change
  • Foster collaborative thinking and problem solving, using appropriate techniques and tools to identify and prioritise further issues and opportunities to explore
  • Build partnerships by communicating the team’s efforts, achievements and needs to delivery partners, stakeholders, management and the public

About you

Some of the skills and experience we're looking for:

  • Expert level knowledge of agile product management methodologies and experience of using within a digital product or service environment
  • Experience leading teams, defining and aligning product and delivery plans, product visions, roadmaps, business cases etc.
  • Utilising user research, feedback and other data to understand your users.  Defining and communicating outcomes
  • Coaching and mentoring, championing and implementing a culture of continuous improvement
  • Working with diverse multidisciplinary service/product teams, nurturing collaboration across teams
  • Understanding how different stages of the product lifecycle influence and effect a delivery teams focus and decision making
  • Determining, communicating and implementing clear objectives, KPIs and results
