About The Role

A fantastic opportunity is available for a Designer to join the NHS Digital Design System and Service Manual team at NHS Digital.

This is an exciting opportunity to work within a multi-disciplinary flat-cultured agile delivery team within the Product Development Directorate of NHS Digital.

You will work alongside Product and Delivery Managers, Content Designers, User Researchers and Developers to help the Design System and Service Manual grow and continue to be of value to teams building digital products and services in a user centred and efficient way across the NHS.

As a Designer, you will be:

  • Working with the design community and engaging them in developing the design system.

  • Providing design expertise, working with content designers and developers to develop design system components, patterns and guidance.

  • Engaging with the service manual community, encouraging contribution and collaboration.

  • Writing HTML & CSS to build prototypes for usability testing design system components, patterns and guidance.

  • Making evidence-based decisions when designing design system components, patterns and guidance, to resolve any conflicts.

About You

Some of the key skills and experience you'll bring: 

  • Understanding and experience of developing both interaction and service design patterns.
  • Experience in working effectively with cross-disciplinary teams, and ensuring that the process for making design decisions is based on evidenced user research and understanding of user journeys.

  • Experience in making complex things simple for users by distilling complex data and information into simple and understandable forms.

  • Demonstrated use of incorporating standards into their team’s work and advocating use of standards to other teams across an organisation.

  • Experience of acting independently and taking action when dealing with uncertain situations or optimising opportunities.

  • Evidence of working in an agile development environment alongside product owners and with researchers, content designers and developers to design and build new digital services.

  • Proven experience with prototyping and iterative design.
