About the role

As a Senior Media Relations Officer here at NHS Digital you will have an opportunity to express your creativity and deliver meaningful and impactful communications campaigns in an environment where your work has a direct and positive impact on the frontline and the public

Working with the wider media team you will be responsible for promoting the important work we do through high quality media relations and via our social media channels, and provide support around reputation management, including providing advice to senior stakeholders and crisis communications.

This role is a part-time 12 month fixed term contract. 22.5 hours per week ideally over 3 consecutive days.

As a Senior Media Relations Officer, you will be responsible for:

  • Acting as the first point of contact for media enquiries and responses.
  • Proactively manage media and social media activity for our data and technology programmes of work.
  • Building relationships with national journalists and key influencers in a manner that best protects and enhances corporate reputation.
  • Providing specialist advice on media and social media as and when required across the business.
  • Working as part of multi-disciplinary teams to design and implement high quality integrated communications campaigns.
  • Producing high quality planned materials including press releases, interview briefs, social media collateral and placed editorial, alongside reactive documents such as lines to take.

About you

Some of the key skills and experience you'll bring:  

  • Specialised knowledge of a wide range of communication disciplines.
  • Experience of digital communications and media relations or journalism.
  • Experience in the development and implementation of multi-disciplinary communication strategies to support the delivery of business objectivising
  • Self-motivation and confidence communicating, take ownership of media strategy delivery from start to finish and managing stakeholder relations.
  • Good news sense, ability to make effective decisions and awareness of political and operational considerations and sensitivities.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills: able to provide clear communications materials and fluently adapt style and tone for different audiences.
