As a key member in the Infrastructure Services senior leadership team, you will lead the delivery, maintenance and continual improvement of large-scale hosting and connectivity arrangements that support vital NHS services throughout the UK. This is an exciting role and a great opportunity to help the NHS provide and utilise highly available, secure and efficient digital services hosted in both on-premise and, increasingly, cloud environments. As someone expert in infrastructure design, delivery and maintenance, you will be responsible for ensuring large numbers of national and corporate NHS services are hosted in accordance with best practice within both on-premise facilities and cloud.
The Head of Infrastructure Operations will lead a team of ~50 to provide high quality system hosting and network connectivity support for~300 internal and external NHS services (Over 5000 servers and compute instances, and many petabytes of data across on-premise datacentres and cloud environments) – building, maintaining and continually improving infrastructure, vulnerability management, version control, patching and release management, identity and access management, event correlation, analytics and business level management information.
The candidate will be a subject matter expert with demonstrable experience of infrastructure design, delivery and maintenance. They will work closely with Live Services, Cyber Security and Technical Services teams to ensure services are hosted effectively, efficiently and safely, and with NHS Digital’s Cloud Centre of Excellence to support the successful shift from on-premise hosting to cloud. The role will also require liaison with Product, Platforms and Data teams throughout NHS Digital to ensure their hosting and connectivity requirements are met and high levels of customer satisfaction are achieved.
